Requirements for U. S. Constitution Replacement Credit Option (RCO)
Be sure you read and understand everything on this page before you begin!
IMPORTANT NOTICE: If you are a student who exercised the U. S. Constitution RCO in a previous class you must do the Texas Constitution RCO instead.
How It Works:
This option, which may be exercised only once, replaces a student's missing or lowest exam score.
IMPORTANT NOTE: STUDENTS MAY NOT EXERCISE THE RCO IN PLACE OF THE FINAL EXAM. YOUR RCO SCORE WILL ONLY REPLACE THE LOWEST OF YOUR REGULAR COURSE CONTENT EXAM SCORES.
To exercise the Replacement Credit Option, you must do 2 things: Complete a self-study of the United States Constitution by completing a 100-question "practice" scantron and then take a 50-question exam on the U.S. Constitution on QuizStar. To receive full credit, you must follow these steps in order:
Print out Dr. Butler's Replacement Credit Option, which consists of 100 questions about the U.S. Constitution. (PDF, 14 pages) These questions are a mixture of multiple choice and true/false.
Referring to the text of the U.S. Constitution and Amendments printed in the back matter section of your textbook (or transcripts of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and Amendments 11-27 at the National Archives website), mark the answers to the 100 questions on both the 14-page question form and a Scantron form 882-E.
Submit the completed practice Scantron form to the Professor, who will score it and return it to you as soon as possible. Before taking the 50-question U.S. Constitution Exam on QuizStar (see next item below), you should compare the scored scantron to the marked 14-page question form so that you will know which questions you missed. You should use these questions and answers as study material prior to taking the 50-question U.S. Constitution Exam. Please note that the practice Scantron score will not be recorded. Completing the 100-question practice Scantron is a prerequisite to taking the 50-question U.S. Constitution Exam. Any student who takes the 50-question exam without first completing a practice scantron will have his or her score voided and must start over.
Because turning in a completed Practice Scantron is not possible during campus closure due to the COVID19 outbreak, students are advised to send their answers to the 100 practice questions by email, either in the body of the email or as a word document attachment. Just the number and the letter choice for each question is all that's necessary. Also, make sure you submit your Practice answers no later than the Friday before Final Exam Week starts. Sooner is better.
Take the 50-question U.S. Constitution Exam at a time convenient to you, but no later than midnight on the last Sunday before Final Exam week on the QuizStar website. Before accessing QuizStar, READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS!
Whatever grade you make on the 50-question U.S. Constitution exam will replace either your lowest exam score for the semester or an exam you missed on account of absence. If the Constitution exam score is lower than your lowest exam score, it will not be recorded. The purpose of this option is to help you improve your grade, not make it worse. ONCE AGAIN, THE RCO MAY NOT BE EXERCISED IN LIEU OF THE FINAL EXAM!
