Requirements for HIST1301 RCO (Replacement Credit Option)

Be sure you read and understand everything on this page before you begin!

How It Works:

This option, which may be exercised only once, replaces a student's missing or lowest exam score. To exercise the Replacement Credit Option, follow these steps:

  1. Print out Dr. Butler's Replacement Credit Option, which consists of 100 questions about the U.S. Constitution. (PDF, 14 pages) These questions are a mixture of multiple choice and true/false.

  2. Referring to the text of the U.S. Constitution and Amendments printed in the back matter section of your textbook (or transcripts of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and Amendments 11-27 at the National Archives website), mark the answers to the 100 questions on both the 14-page question form and a Scantron form 882-E.

  3. Submit the completed Scantron form to the Professor, who will score it and return it to you as soon as possible, after which you will take the 50-question Constitution Exam in the campus test center or on final exam day (the Professor will advise you regarding your options). Before taking the Constitution exam, you should compare the scored scantron to the marked 14-page question form so that you will know which questions you missed. You should use these questions and answers as study material prior to taking the exam. Please note that the Scantron score will not be recorded. Completing the Scantron is a prerequisite to taking the Constitution exam.

  4. Take the Constitution Exam at a time convenient to you, but no later than the last Saturday before Final Exam week(the exam expires at midnight on that date) on the QuizStar website. Email the professor for instructions regarding enrollment in QuizStar.

  5. Whatever grade you make on the Constitution exam will replace either your lowest exam score for the semester or an exam you missed on account of absence. If the Constitution exam score is lower than your lowest exam score, it will not be recorded. The purpose of this option is to help you improve your grade, not make it worse.
